Actually he had a stroke several years ago and has been working very hard on improving.
great technique to pull the rotor, mine was really stuck in there. I removed the pulley side housing first and couldn't figure it out.

Question: the wire that you stripped back and added the jumper to.... was that the green wire or the red wire? Because I am having that exact problem and I think this is the solution. I have watched over and over. I just can't figure out which wire needs to be modified. Thanks for the help!

What if its the exciter wire thats bad? How can i tell? I swapped speedo out on my 96 bronco now the alt wont charge. Swapped alt out for new and still no charge. Also the batt light on cluster doesnt light up until i prob it with test light? Which wire do i need to be looking at?
I got one on this 89 f250 the thing intermediary loses all power to everything but only for a second and it never died alternator was bad before I removed it I unplugged it and the problems went away but only running on battery, new alternator and it does the same thing wires repaired from switch to the fuseboxes inside coulum to transmission speed sensors dash cluster and distributor and ign mod all way to drive train control module and even the door chime. Everything's fine but same shit. Fucked over rebuilt Datsun

I currently have a 4 pin 145 amp alternator and would like to put a 160 amp alternator that has a 2 pin connection. Can that be done also?
Check your connection. My Hummer h2 has a 4 pin oval connector but only has two wires going to the center two pins so I'm guessing all you'd have to do is change the plug.

Great segment I put a kit in my CS144 a couple of years ago I've replaced all the smaller components taken it to a alternator shop. They said it's charging very little it's a 200 amp kit. I've redisassemble it everything is assembled correctly I installed the bridge rectifier first. Then the capacitor then the voltage regulator then the brush holder then the stator all parts are new. The insulator screw's are in the correct place only thing isn't new. Is the rotor and it's still not charging so question can I send it to you so you can find out what the problem is?
I have a 96 GMC C3500 6.5l Diesel with dual alternators. The truck is from the east coast and has 117,000 miles on it but road salt corrosion thru out. Both alternator bearings are noisy. I plan on rebuilding both alternators due to economic concerns. Is there an upgrade for these alternators that could increase output?

That's interesting I have seen voltages like that before because of stuff like you said corrosion and stuff but not what I was looking for my sisters mariner battery keeps going dead but it seems like it might be in the charging system but I'm only getting 13.7v and I put my Amp meter on it and and the battery takes current for like a min and it drops to like 0 amps and I can charge it with a battery charger and it will rest at like 12.7 but in the car after running it rest at like 12.54
Im trying to replace the voltage regulator on an AD alternator. The regulator has a large contact in the form of a ring that goes under the metal space and the main voltage output. I cannot move the large metal cylinder - how does one remove it. Its absolutely solid and wont turn using grips after soaking in penetrating oil.
have gf 98 nissan frontier not charging.same exact issue as here except the wire that goes to the indicator lamp is the one not able to light.its barely lights test light but not 3amp bulb

You cannot reinstall it as is as the polarity will be wrong. So, do not install it. By not installing it, the alternator output will have more "noise" in it and may impact your radio.
Will the battery be dead the next day from powering the windings constantly?

Zero information on how a voltage regulator works. How does a voltage regulator reduce the power to the brushes while the battery voltage is going up?

I had this problem and spent several hours looking for the bad wire that wasn't there. The battery warning light did not come on , not even when I turned the ignition to on. Decided for the heck of it to replace the voltage regulator and it solved the problem.
